Below are the latest developments on the NY/NJ port situation and vessel updates. Kuehne + Nagel is continuing to monitor the situation and actively managing all shipments under our care to assure that the disruptions to our clients supply chain are as minimal as possible. Ports – While terminals at the Port of NY/NJ are operational, there are still unresolved issues. Please expect delays as cleanup and repair work continues at the port’s maritime facilities. Some chassis fleets suffered damages, so there maybe chassis shortages in the NJ/NY area. Carriers: Vessels access to the NY/NJ terminals has been restored and cleared, but some temporary vessel omissions and vessel rotations have been reported. Customers should be aware of the potential for their cargo to be discharged in alternative ports for temporary holding or on-forwarding. Kuehne + Nagel will advise estimated time of arrival (ETAs) as information is made available. Customs -- The U.S. Customs and Border Protection service said it was working closely with the Coast Guard and the Port Authority to expedite vessels into local terminals. Kuehne + Nagel’s brokerage and seafreight teams are closely collaborating to ensure if your cargo is discharged to a different port, customs entry is not delayed further than necessary. Intermodal – CSX Corp has re-opened all its intermodal terminals and has reestablished train service in the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. CSXT has estimated at least 72 hours of delay on freight traffic moving through the Northeast region as network congestion clears. NS embargoes have been lifted with the exception of E Rail and Elizabeth Marine Terminal in New Jersey. Truckers have returned to work in the Tristate area.
